 PSYCOLOGICAL THRILLER K STUDY

MA

when researching this movie "MA" I came across some information regarding the movie. "MA" is a movie directed toward teenagers and young adults because of the overall morale was that past traumas like such in high school can effect decisions when you become an adult. the fact that this movie was about a lonely woman who only who made sociopathic decisions because she found out she was friends with the kids of those who traumatized her in high school kind of proves the morale of this movie. when it came to the production of the film long time friends:  Tate Taylors and Octavia Spencer had a conversation about a horror movie Octavia said she didn't want to do a horror movie since all black people die in the first couple of minutes but Tate said she wouldn't die in the first couple of minutes and she would be the one killing. this conversation started the journey for them to do something messed up. the original script had no backstory for the character ma so which made her a monster that nobody could share emotions to or sympathize with. getting the movie out there might not have been to hard considering for the movie Tate partnered with Universal and Blumhouse also the fact that Jason Blum and john Norris helped produce this movie. even though ma was based on anyone the movie was still based on a true story. Universal did a great job offering benefits for moviegoers so they can advertised also showing the movie to be a black women who probably wouldn't die in the first couple seconds got a 36% of African Americans at the opening shooting so to market this movie both Blumhouse and Universal did a great job. because of the movie being like a horror and there not being much if any merchandise on this movie it didn't cross well with the media especially since no one could really relate with the character ma. but it did do well as a movie earning around 18 million dollars.
